Rhythm in the Wind’s Wake, ebru (combed şal/gelgit), pigments and ox gall on paper

This work brings the ebru art’s principle of controlled chance to the stage with a high-tempo comb rhythm. The red–blue–yellow triad, joined by green and white, opens in successive layers along diagonal flows, creating an optical vibration. Rather than a single focal point, the artist builds multiple “şal” bundles across the surface, drawing the eye into a musical circulation between leaf-like sweeps.

The colors spread without sinking and retain clear veins—evidence of a deft balance of ox gall and size—while the unbroken comb traces reveal strong hand control. The correct ordering of color weights prevents muddiness, and the fine channels of white lend the composition breath and brightness. The result is a surface composition that fuses traditional ebru discipline with contemporary energy, built on movement and continuity.
